  • Additional Info Growing up, I realized how hard it was for my mother to finish high school and getting a college degree. She was one of the few teen moms who never gave up on her education. Unfortunately, my mothers single income is not enough for the size of family we have to help me go to my dream college. That is why, I am requesting for you to help me out financially to pay for my college housing, so I can graduate college and become a Great Veterinarian.

One of the most tough classes I have taken in my high school year is English 4 AP. The reason I chose this class was because my teacher was very strict about homework, time test, and research papers. He said he was doing this to help prepare us for college. This class is helping me learn about how to manage my time, and having to understand how to multitask.
The ability to be able to memorize things really quickly rather than studying it for a long time has always been an advantage to me. It would especially help me by becoming a Veterinarian. I'm able to learn and remember a wide range of things varying from what I've have learned in people, hands on experience, or by life experiences.

My post college ambition is to be able to get into the program to become a veterinarian. Once I receive my degree I plan to open my own Vet clinic.

  • Additional Info I've realized throughout time that in order to reach one main goal you have to complete little goals along the journey. My main goal is to become a Veterinarian. I know that it's not going to be easy to become a Veterinarian, but I love animals and want to be able to help them. To become a Veterinarian I have to complete short term goals.

My 1st short term goal is to graduate high school with top 10%. Without graduating from high school I can't become a Veterinarian because it would be harder to enter the college I need and get in the Veterinary program. I'm close to full filling this short term goal but it was not easy.

I had to take extra dual and academic placement courses and get high grades to help me stay in the top ten percent. By participating in those tough classes I get double the assignments which means longer hours to do the homework so I have to manage my time and pass with straight A's.

Another short term that I have to accomplish is to do well in college. I want to be able to pass my associates and bachelors with a high GPA, so I can get into the Veterinarian program. I want to build a good transcript and a resume at the same time that I'm in college by working and studying hard. I want to be able to look back at myself and say &quot;Wow you did it!. You graduated with bachelors and made into the Vet program.

By getting into the Veterinarian program and graduating from it, I would be able to reach my long term goal. By doing this, I would want to change the world to be a better place. I would help animals in need and keep them from over populating on earth. I would educate communities on how to properly take care of their pets. I would also help the animal shelters by examining the animals, create fund raisers, and involve communities to adopt an animal. This and more would put a smile on my face knowing that I'm helping out. Accomplishing of becoming a Dr. Veterinarian has a been a long dream of mine, and when it comes true I would someday to be known as the best Veterinarian.

In order to achieve my long term dream goal, I would have to let time pass by to accomplish the small goals of mine first. Once I complete my short term goals I would be one step closer to becoming a Veterinarian. These goals are going to be part of my life, and I'm going to enjoy every bit of this journey. I will be able to help animals in need and be part of the community.

  • Additional Info In the summer of 2014, news reporters in every news channel talked about a Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McAllen Texas who was hosting a charity for illegal immigrants. This organization helped illegal immigrants who have been released from custody due to the immigrant reform and they didn’t have any clothes, food, and shelter. Citizens were able to donate clothes, shampoos, and foods to the charity, but never in a million years did I ever think I would have an opportunity to volunteer and experience helping the immigrants first hand.

On June 18, 2014, my mom told me the Sacred Heart Catholic Church was looking for volunteers. I went right away at 9:00 a.m. and registered to volunteer. When I was registering I donated some clothes and food for the immigrants. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the church was tons of clothes on tables in the middle of the room and a priest.

The clothes were sectioned for infants, 2-3 years old, 4-8 years old, 9-15 years old, and adults.

South of the church room there was a small section of chairs for the immigrants to wait to register for their next bus destination to travel to. Next to the small waiting area there is a row of tables and on top of them are bottles, diapers, and hygiene necessities for the immigrants. In the east of the church room there were about 500 dozens of water and 2 pictures of Jesus hanged on the wall. North of the room there was snacks and goodie bags that the illegal immigrants can take on the bus to their next location.

West of the church room were restrooms and a cafeteria to feed the immigrants if they’re hungry. Outside of the Church was a tent for immigrants can sleep and take a nap until their bus comes and picks them up. Also outside there was a volunteer restroom because they didn’t want any volunteers to risk getting sick because of the immigrants. There was also a shower trailer for the immigrants can take a shower but they had a time limit which was 3 minutes max. Next to the shower trailer was a doctor trailer where immigrants can get help if injured.

My first duty as a volunteer, the priest told me to wear gloves and start folding clothes. I was folding clothes until 2:00 p.m. came because that’s when the immigrants started to arrive. Once I saw immigrants walking in the church I felt my heart break into a million pieces. They looked sick, injured, and hungry. There were so many immigrant children.

Every volunteer was assigned a family to take care of. The family that was assigned to me was a Guatemala family. I had a mom who was 46 years old and a son who was 13 years old. The mom was a Mexican wearing a pink tank top, blue long denim skirt, and torn sandals. The son was wearing a sky blue plain shirt, torn pants, and torn shoes with holes. They didn’t speak any English, so I had to communicate with Spanish for them. The mom looked nervous and in pain and I told her I was going to take care of her and get her some help. Right away she put a smile on her face and it was a smile that brought a warm feeling in your heart that you know you’re doing something right. I asked them if they were in any pain so I can take them to the doctor and the mom said yes. She showed me her toe which was wrapped with a napkin and had blood.

As I took her to the doctor so he can help her, I asked her how she got her toe nail ripped. She said when she was on the bus she fell and hit her toe with the metal pole part of the seat and her toe nail ripped and was bleeding. She has had it for 2 weeks she said. I was shocked because her toe nail was infected and she didn’t have any money to get some help for her toe.

Once the doctor helped her he checked the son just in case and he was cleared. I asked them if they were hungry and wanted to eat. Right away they both nodded and I heard their stomach grumbling. I took them to the cafeteria and fed them chicken, rice, and beans with water because they were dehydrated. I asked them politely how long has it been since they have eaten and they said 2 days. Seeing them so happy eating the food reminded me that I should be thankful for all the times I’ve had food on the table provided by my family. I asked them if Guatemala was beautiful and they said yes very much.

While the family was eating, volunteers had to get them clothes for their trip on the bus. I also had to get them clothes so they can take a shower and wear new clean clothes. I asked the mom and the son what size of shoes they were and what size of clothing they were. The mom told me I can get her any type of clothes but if I was able to find a long skirt for her she would be so grateful. So my mission was to get the son some new brand clothes that you would see kids wear nowadays. I found him some Abercrombie shirts, boxers, pants, and shoes. As for the mom, I tried looking really hard for a long skirt because I wanted her to be happy and comfortable in her clothes. After a good 10 min. looking I found a brown long skirt, and found a white shirt to go with the skirt. I got her as well some bras, underwear, and some open toe sandals because of her toe nail. When I brought the family the clothes I chose for them I saw them get so happy that they eagerly hurried to finish their food and wanted to take a shower to try on the new clothes.

I took them to the shower trailer and told them they had 3 min. to take a shower. As the family was taking a shower I thought of how different they live from me. I have a place to call home and they don’t. They’re always on the move and can never stay in a place too long. I get to take a shower any time I want and take as long as I want while they take a shower once a week and have only 3 min. to take a shower.

I realized our world is corrupted and unfair. Some people don’t have things that they need to survive in the world. They have to find a way to survive and somehow manage to do that with no home or money. When the family finished taking a shower they looked totally different from the first time I saw them. They seemed happier and clean. They looked like a flower that has just blossomed for the first time ever. I took them to get a bag and took them to the area where they can get hygiene necessities such as deodorant, toothbrush, pads, etc. Once they received everything I got them a snack bag and their extra clothes for their ride on the bus. The mom and little boy thanked me and told me I will always be in their heart and they won’t ever forget me.

Hearing them say that made my day. Their next destination was L.A. California and they had to leave at 5:00 p.m. So when 5 o’clock came I waved to them as they were getting on the bus and they waved back. That was the last time I saw that Guatemala family.

This experience helping the illegal immigrants changed my perspective of the world. Seeing the immigrants with full of joy helped me realize that we shouldn’t take advantage of the little things we have. Our society is corrupted with wanting more and never having enough of things.

For example having a phone, many people are never satisfied with just having a phone they always want the latest technology advance phone. The illegal immigrants didn’t have a phone and aren’t able to communicate with their other families back home like us. Everyday everyone should tell their parents that we love them and are thankful for providing the life we have today because many other people don’t have that life we have. Helping the immigrants made me feel thankful and made me want to volunteer whenever there is an available spot and help donate to the immigrants. Seeing the immigrants smile and not starve is one of the most awesome sensations you can ever feel, because the community comes together to help other s in need and I hope others will follow in my footstep and volunteer to help the illegal immigrants.
