Education History
I'm a student of Queensborough Community college and major in liberal arts, science and have taken many math courses of calculus, statistic, and discrete math at the college. I have always enjoyed and been strong in areas that require problem-solving, analytical and mathematical skills, and I am anxious to combine the knowledge of, and aptitude for, these skills with my intense interest in various interdisciplinary quantitative fields, including especially probability theory, dynamical systems, graph theory, and mathematical biology. Since last Summer, I have kept in touch with my statistics instructor, Prof. Wenjian Liu about the extended quantitative study based on Calculus, including Probability, Statistics, Graph Theory, Programming, etc. Most important to a career in academics is research competence. As I have explained, I have an excellent grasp of mathematics, statistics, programming, and other skills critical to a successful career in research, such as tenacity and excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills. In our undergraduate research project, Reconstruction Threshold for the Multi-State Hard-Core Model, we try to solve a proposed generalization of the hardcore model as an idealized model of multicasting in communication networks, which could be extended to the reconstruction of phylogenies from DNA or protein sequences on a d regular tree, which is a major task of computational evolutionary biology. In this generalization, the multi-state hardcore model, the capacity C is allowed to be a positive integer, and a configuration in the model is an assignment of states from {0, . . . , C} subject to the constraint that the states of adjacent nodes may not sum to more than C. This project will focus on the reconstruction bound of the multi-state hardcore model on regular d-ary trees. I'm excited in mathematics after I realize how pretty the connection between the points on the graph and the equation is. The knowledge that I gain from doing the research with my professor and taking math courses at Queensborough Community College has inspired my passion for Mathematics. So, I plan to transfer to a four years college to pursue further study about mathematics with a double major in statistics.
