Accepted to The University of Alabama Huntsville, Fall 2019, majoring in aerospace/astronautical engineering, minoring in physics.
All my life, I have been fascinated with space. When I graduated preschool I responded to the question we get asked all our lives by saying “When I grow up I want to be an astronaut.” Since then, my ideas have been slightly modified, but nevertheless space influenced. Now, I am hoping to become an astronautical engineer. I intend to study Aerospace/Astronautical Engineering so that I can pursue my passion for a career in a space-related engineering field. My interest is mainly in the space side of the field so that I can be a modern-day explorer, enhancing humanities understanding of our universe. I do not intend to become an astronaut, but rather to become part of a team working on projects and missions that may or may not send people into space, to enhance our knowledge of what lies beyond Earth’s atmosphere. I do not believe that the sky’s the limit because there are footprints on the moon telling me otherwise. Going into the next chapter of my life, my intention is to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree, then a Master’s Degree in engineering and then to obtain a Ph.D. in Astrophysics. I have always had an interest in space, from building model rockets with my Dad and launching the rockets near our home, to viewing the stars through a 6-inch reflector telescope on top of our mountain. I subscribe to Astronomy Magazine and have just begun subscribing to Sky and Telescope. Space is a barely explored frontier for humankind and I want to be a part of contributing to that exploration in some fashion. My true career passion is to become Doctor Brooke Buchanan in a profession exploring the universe. With STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) careers advancing today’s society, I believe the future lies in those fields. With such goals in mind, it is necessary for me to choose the best path that leads to the ending I hope for. Be it the road less traveled or the one more worn out, I look forward to taking the chance that the path I choose is the right one. The University of Alabama Huntsville is the right choice for me. After all it is “Rocket City”. This university is a short walk from Cummings Research Park. It is the home of nearly 300 companies, more than 26,000 employees and 12,500 students. Because of this, it makes receiving internships and starting a career that much more
